Science
The Science Faculty is committed to providing a variety of methods to motivate and encourage students. We work together in a collaborative fashion to plan, review and improve all aspects of the Science curriculum.
Science is taught in two adjoining self contained blocks. The main block has a suite of five laboratories and two preparation rooms on two floors. The smaller, but very modern purpose built, block houses two laboratories plus one preparation room. All laboratories are networked, wireless networked and have a computer and projector. The department has 32 new laptops.
Three technicians assist our work in Science. The Faculty has three preparation areas.
This is an exciting and important time for the Faculty, with the start of the additional Science specialism from April. The successful candidate will be joining a team in a forward looking school in which professional development has a high priority.
Teaching and Learning
At Key Stage 3 students follow a general science course that draws on the QCA schemes of work and is supported by “Framework Science”. The Key Stage 3 curriculum is organised in mainly half-termly modules.
At Key Stage 4 all students follow AQA modular syllabi. The majority of students take the Core and Additional Science. Separate Science is offered to two accelerated groups (out of six) in each year group. In addition to this, one Year 11 group follows the Additional Applied Science course.
At Key Stage 5 A-levels in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Environmental Studies are offered.
