Sixth Form Centre

The decision about the courses you will take in the Sixth Form is one of the most important in your life so far. We are delighted that you are considering Oldfield Sixth Form Centre as one of your options at this time. Oldfield Sixth Form Centre provides an environment which allows students to achieve the very highest academic results, 50% of the A-level exams taken last year were passed at either grade A or B. The school was rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted in November 2007. They reported that ‘Teaching and learning in the Sixth Form are good, responding well to th different standards of students. The personal development and well-being of the students are excellent.’ Through effective teaching and monitoring of progress, we will challenge you to do your best academically, but we also have an experienced pastoral team who will support and guide you during your time with us.

I am pleased to present you with our prospectus for this year. We have an exciting range of AS and A2 courses on offer in the Arts, Humanities and Sciences. We also have on offer Level 3 courses in Travel and Tourism, Public Services and ICT. More information on all of the courses on offer can be found in the blue ‘Course Description’ section. I encourage you to read this section thoroughly and consider the advice it offers before selecting your four subject choices on the application form. Use this as a basis for discussion with your tutor, subject teachers and parents in the weeks and months to come. An application form can be found on the How to Apply page where you are invited to select up to four courses to study in Year 12.

We believe that your Sixth Form experience will not only develop your academic skills but will also enrich you as an individual and prove to be a fun and rewarding time. You will be offered many opportunities to develop personal skills outside of lessons. Working with younger students, leading whole school events, the Duke of Edinburgh Award, participating in a World Challenge Expedition and residential visits are just some of the possibilities that will open up to you as soon as you join us. The Sixth Form Information Evening will give you the chance to meet the teachers who will offer the courses face to face. This is an opportunity to judge what is on offer for yourselves. We look forward to receiving your application and to welcoming you into the Sixth Form next year.

Yours sincerely
