Sixth Form Centre
Dear Student
The decision about the courses you will take in the Sixth Form is one of the most important in your life so far. We are delighted that you are considering Oldfield Sixth Form Centre as one of your options at this time.
Oldfield Sixth Form Centre provides an environment which allows students to achieve the very highest academic results, 63% of the A-level exams taken in 2009 were passed at an A or B grade. The school was rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted in November 2007. They reported that ‘Teaching and learning in the Sixth Form are good, responding well to the different standards of students. The personal development and well-being of the students are excellent.’ Through effective teaching and monitoring of progress, we will challenge you to do your best academically, but we also have an experienced pastoral team who will support and guide you during your time with us.
I am pleased to present you with our prospectus for this year. We have a wide and exciting range of AS and A2 courses on offer as well as level 2 and 3 courses in Childcare and level 3 courses in Travel and Tourism and Public Services. You will also have the opportunity to engage in the Extended Project Award and Community Sports Leadership Award alongside your subject choices. I encourage you to read the blue ‘Course Description’ section thoroughly and consider the advice it offers before selecting up to four subject choices on the application form. Use this prospectus as a basis for discussion with your tutor, subject teachers and parents in the weeks and months to come.
We believe that your Sixth Form experience will not only develop your academic skills but will also enrich you as an individual and prove to be a fun and rewarding time. You will be offered many opportunities to develop personal skills outside of lessons. Working with younger students, leading whole school events, the Duke of Edinburgh Award, participating in a World Challenge Expedition and residential visits are just some of the possibilities that will open up to you as soon as you join us.
The Sixth Form Information Evening will give you the chance to meet the teachers who will offer the courses face to face. This is an opportunity to judge what is on offer for yourselves. We look forward to receiving your application and to welcoming you into the Sixth Form next year.
Yours sincerely
Dr D Robson
